DAY 1 31/03/2021
Arrival in Yerevan, meeting with the guide (in Italian) transfer to the chosen hotel. Arrival accommodation in the reserved rooms. Free time.
DAY 2 01/04/2021 YEREVAN (Holy Thursday)
Breakfast. Excursion with guide of the city of Yerevan. The city of Yerevan was founded by King Argishti in 782 BC. Visit to the Institute of Ancient Monographs - Matenadaran, visit to the Museum and the Memorial of the victims of the Genocide. Continue to visit the church of San Gregorio Illuminatore to participate in the liturgy of Holy Thursday and the ancient foot washing ceremony, which takes place in memory of the gesture made by Jesus during the Last Supper. You will spend the final part of the day visiting Caskad with a wonderful view over the city of Yerevan. Dinner in a traditional restaurant, where you can taste the "Bagharj" bread, according to tradition it must be prepared on Holy Thursday. Overnight in Yerevan
Day 3 02/04/2021 Yerevan - Khor Virap - Noravank – Yerevan (Holy Friday)
On this day all Christians commemorate the passion and crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Breakfast. Full day guided excursion in the south of Armenia and then departure for the Ararat region to visit the Khor Virap Monastery, a famous pilgrimage site, also visited by Pope John Paul II. The monastery stands on the place of imprisonment of San Gregorio to whom Armenia was converted to Christianity. Khor Virap means "deep ditch" where San Gregorio was also imprisoned; from the monastery perched on the hill you can enjoy a splendid view of the biblical Mount Ararat. Departure for the Vayots Dzor region and crossing an 8 km canyon. Visit the beautiful monastery complex of Novarank (12th / 13th century) located in a spectacular position on the edge of a precipice. Return to Yerevan. Visit to the church of St. Zoravor. Here you can participate in the celebration of all the Good Friday liturgy. Overnight in Yerevan.
Day 4 03/04/2021: Yerevan - Sevan - Garni - Geghard - Yerevan
Breakfast. Departure to Lake Sevan, one of the great lakes in the world. Here we can enjoy the splendid panorama of the lake. Afterwards we will visit the peninsula of Sevan, with a visit to the two 10th century monasteries. Visit to Garni, center of Hellenistic and Roman culture and ancient residence of the Armenian royals of the Arshakuni Dynasty; we will visit the Temple dedicated to the Sun God, the remains of the third century BC wall. and the Roman Baths. Continue to the Monastery of Geghard (Unesco World Heritage) called with the name of the spear that pierced the body of Christ, located in a very spectacular deep canyon: half built inside the rock, according to tradition, it dates back to the fourth century. On Holy Saturday the churches in Armenia are filled with faithful for Vespers. Participation in the annual Vigil. During the vigil, the fire is blessed, the Paschal candle symbol of the light of Christ is lit. The Easter vigil lasts all night. Fire as a fundamental symbol in the Christian liturgy is the supreme expression of the triumph of light over darkness, heat over cold and life over death. Visit to a local family where you will have the opportunity to learn about the preparation of lavash (very ancient and typical Armenian bread), then you will have the opportunity to see how the Armenians color Easter eggs, and if you wish you can participate in the decoration of the eggs .
The egg symbolically represents a life that is born, the resurrection of Christ who begins a new one. Traditional Armenian Easter dinner. Overnight in Yerevan.
Day 5 04/04/2021 Yerevan - Zvartnots - Ejmiatsin - Yerevan
Easter is the main solemnity of Christianity. It celebrates the resurrection of Jesus, which took place on the third day after his death on the cross, as described in the Gospels.
Departure for Echmiadzin. Entering the Echmiadzin City you can see a very old seventh century church, the church of Santa Hripsime. Very popular for its classic Armenian architecture. Continuing with the excursion we will visit the Echmiadzin Cathedral, a truly spiritual place that shows the particularity of the Armenian Church. During the journey, the guide will tell the story of how Armenia has adopted Christianity as an official religion. Today Echmiadzin is the Holy See of the Catholicos, the spiritual heart of the Armenian Apostolic Church. You will spend Easter in the most important cathedral of the Armenian church with the liturgical bread offered at the end of the liturgy. Lunch in a local house, where with the house owner you will prepare another typical Easter dessert in Armenia "Gata". Visit to the ruins of the Zvartnots Cathedral (7th century). Return to Yerevan. Visit of the famous open-air market of contemporary arts "Vernissage". Overnight in Yerevan.
Day 6 05/05/2021 Yerevan - Italy
Breakfast in hotel. Transfer to airport. end of services
